Grace is the beauty of form under the influence of freedom.
~Friedrich Schiller
This little sweetie, unexpectedly came to us last year. She was approximately 3 months at the time, but quite mature for her age.
Being a brumby she had spent all of her short life out in the Australian scrub - running free with her herd. Wild and completely untouched by humans.
So even after four months with us she is still a little unsure of me, but is improving everyday. Lately she has just begun to take food from my hands! I knew from the very start that it would be a long road and I've had to be very patient. 'Less is More." that has become my motto while working with her. Its all about trust...
While she has come along way, she still has that really strong flight instinct, and is not quite sure whether she should give herself over to a human yet.
Which is fine, I'm good with doing it at her pace- I really don't want to force her into anything and break her beautiful free spirit. I want her to follow me because she wants to, not because she has to.
In future posts I will try to keep her progress, or breakthroughs up to date. :)
Gracie really is a dream come true, albeit she is a tad more wild, than one in my dreams; she is highly trained and only needs the slightest cue to perform the most intricate feats, but there is time for that yet! Besides who can look a gift horse in the mouth?
I have always daydreamed about owning a beautiful black horse. Friesians are a particular weakness of mine...
But isn't that most girl's dream horse? To own a fiery black stallion, to laugh as he rears pawing the air, his mane flying wildly around you, before you both gallop off into the sun set?
How many of you have pretended that your scruffy old pony is of those majestic steeds?
Which of you have fantasized about owning one of those beautiful black horses that are heroes of the big screen: Black Beauty, The Black Stallion, Zorro's Tornado, or even Goliath the stunning horse star of Lady Hawk? Those horses that are able to do such amazing feats and are so loyal for their owners... *sigh* I could go on all day! But this is Blog is meant to be about Gracie, and I digress.
Hang on a sec, while extract myself from my reverie..........okay I'm done, so where was I? Oh yes Gracie's story...
Story of Grace
At that point in time I hadn't planned on getting another horse, much less a foal! It just happened, pure luck- a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
Life is sometimes like that, it takes you unexpected places.. Fate if you believe in such things. Sometimes a simple decision, that at the time hardly holds much significance, but in hindsight it is the key that opens the door... That sometimes, just sometimes that one decision allows your wildest dreams to gallop though...

Please stay tuned for the rest the story - it will be up as soon as I find my muse, she appears to run off again!
