“He found himself wondering at times, especially in the autumn, about the wild lands, and strange visions of mountains that he had never seen came into his dreams.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
I may have been neglecting the blog for awhile... I have some exciting news to share!
But first off, brrr... Winter is well on the way! and any horse owner knows what that means -
horses with fluffy winter woolies! and ponies are the worst ones... they always end up looking so scruffy! (well mine always do, it doesn't matter how much brushing is involved! ;))
Despite my greatest rugging efforts and to my dismay Donna's beautiful coat is resembling somewhat of that of a wooly mammoth's! (and I'm only slightly exaggerating! hehe) oh well, Donna will soon be going back in to work after nearly 6months off on injury- it will be so nice to be back in the saddle again!
Right now the big news that I am bursting to tell!
Gracie is finally allowing me touch her now! Yay!
She is still a bit flighty, but really starting to calm down now. We have been doing a fair bit of playing around in the paddock and working on bit of groundwork too. She is quite willing to follow me around, stop, turn and even back up on command! I am incredibly proud of the little sweetie!
our next big goal is putting on a halter...
Now I can hear some of you saying: 'Why hasn't she done that yet?' I have been fairly well nagged already about this point, but I am determined to let Gracie set the pace. No good ever comes of rushing anything and cutting corners, especially with horses.
Another thing is that Gracie is still really young, perhaps if she was a bit older, yes, I would be putting a bit more pressure on her, push her to the limits of her comfort zone... But she is not, and putting too much pressure on her at the moment only confuses her and she hasn't got a clue what is being asked of her. Its like asking a small child to read Shakespeare and expecting them to understand everything! At the present she is doing the best she can and I'm quite happy at her progress, especially when I look back and see just how far she has come, its pretty amazing! =)
Thanks for reading and feel free to comment!
I'd love to hear from you!
